We’ll Pay you for Conducting Internal Training!

Via Employers Group’s contract with the state, we will pay your company for delivering internal training programs – and even do the paperwork to make it happen.

In December, California awarded $21.3 million in training funds to 56 companies throughout state. What these 56 companies don’t know is the amount of paperwork and administration they must undertake to receive the funds is burdensome. As a member of Employers Group, you can receive access to state training funds through Employers Group’s contract with the state—and we handle all the details for you. Whether you conduct your own training program or use one of ours, we’ll pay you either way.

Employers Group is currently making arrangements for members to use its state-funded training program to subsidize training projects that your company will deliver to your employees in the months ahead.

Benefits for you

  • Receive reimbursement for internally-delivered training.
  • Train and focus on frontline employees.
  • Employers Group can also provide resources and deliver the training to your employees.
  • Employers Group deals with the state and handles all paperwork.
  • There is no direct involvement between your company and the state.

How it works
If your organization has a limited training budget or training resources available and would like to begin a training program that targets frontline employees within the next 12 months, we can help. Employers Group can include your company in our next state-funded training program. By doing so, your organization will receive direct reimbursement from Employers Group for each training hour each employee receives from June 2007 to June 2008.

Training can include such topics as equipment operations, process, lean, process improvement, business skills, continuous improvement and workplace skills. Training cannot include compliance-related topics such as harassment, safety, or any legal topic. Receive reimbursement to defray internal trainer/staff costs, purchase training materials, or even purchase equipment to be used for training. It’s your choice.

How to begin
First, your company must be eligible for state-funded training. Please complete the online eligibility form. Employers Group will notify you of your eligibility within 48 hours.

Employers Group will then schedule a one-hour conference call or meeting with you and/or your management team.

Sign up now – before January 31st!
To be included in Employers Group’s next state contract and receive reimbursement for internally delivered training programs, we need to meet with you by February 15, 2007. Do not delay. Contact Jeffrey Hull at jhull@employersgroup.com.

FAQ

Protesting Unemployment Insurance Claims

Q: Should I protest a UI claim if it is past the due date?

A: Yes, the information may still be needed by Employment Development Department (EDD) in determining if the claimant is eligible for UI benefits; however, without stating a good reason for protesting a claim late you will not be entitled to receive a determination and/or ruling and may be subject to charges in the future.

Q: What are considered good reasons for protesting a UI claim late?

A: Generally, mistake, inadvertence, excusable neglect resulting in minimal delay with no prejudice to another party is considered good cause. The more substantial the delay the more substantial must be the explanation for the delay. If you have good cause for the delay even though EDD disagrees, you can appeal your case to the appeals board.

Identifying Individual Strengths, Limitations, Motivations and Potential in your Employees

Employers Group is pleased to announce a new partnership with Caliper to provide members with the Caliper Profile, an assessment instrument for measuring an individual’s characteristics, potential and motivation. Validated by more than 40 years of research, this personality test measures over 25 personality traits that consultants analyze in a variety of combinations to determine how someone will perform in a specific role.

Job matching emphasis
With an emphasis on “job matching,” a process beginning with full analysis of the job and then comparing the person to the job, Caliper’s premise is that when individuals are in roles that play to their strengths, rather than going against their nature, they are much more likely to succeed.

Training News

Are You Prepared for AB 1825 in 2007?

Did you do harassment training in 2005? If so, then you will need to provide mandatory harassment prevention training for your supervisory employees (at a minimum), including your executives, in 2007. Individual deadlines for completing your mandatory training will vary based upon using the training year approach (most common), individual tracking method or a combination of the two.

Regardless of the method, Employers Group is ready to assist you in four ways:

On-Site delivery
Our 2007 program has been updated and includes video-simulations and a higher-level of interactivity from the 2005 version. If requested, our 2005 version has also been updated and can be used for an on-site program. Regardless of the version, each is delivered by qualified instructors and, as a value-added feature of the programs, trainees will have access to EG’s internal subject matter experts so they can ask any additional questions about content up to two days after the training.

Training also incorporates your company’s logo, includes a review and incorporation of your anti-harassment and discrimination policies into the training content itself. The program is structured to enable you to train employees, supervisors or both through a 2+1 approach. Two hours of general harassment and discrimination training that applies to any level within the organization and then one supplemental hour of training specifically tailored to supervisory employees. The training not only meets AB1825 requirements, but exceeds them.

Contact a professional services manager at 800.748.8484 or email training@employersgroup.com to get the dates and times you need. Programs are cost-effectively priced and the more groups that need to be trained, the more savings you receive. Spanish instruction is also available.

Online delivery
An advanced harassment prevention training program has been released for 2007, one that will take your supervisors to the next level in harassment prevention. Trainees who experienced our online training in 2005 and 2006, can now get more interactive training with our advanced version. Our 2006 version is still available as a basic program. Also available are versions tailored to educational institutions and companies with facilities in Connecticut and Maine (where other harassment training requirements are mandatory).

As a value-add, you not only receive access to compliant and interactive harassment prevention training that exceeds AB1825 requirements, but access – at no additional charge – to all other online courses such as legal interviewing, lawful terminations, diversity, workplace violence and many others.

Pricing is very cost effective and allows companies to easily train a large contingent of employees and supervisors. For pricing or to schedule a one-on-one demo, please contact jhull@employersgroup.com.

Public courses
Employers Group has two approaches through its public course offerings: instructor-led or express online training:

Instructor Led: Do you only have a few employees or supervisors that need to be trained? Employers Group has scheduled training programs throughout the year statewide beginning in March. Send one, two or a few employees to a public course and receive the required instruction on harassment / discrimination prevention. Programs are available for both supervisory and non-supervisory personnel. Click below for information on either:

Supervisory

Non-supervisory

Upcoming programs will be held in Costa Mesa on 3/2/07, Ontario on 3/9/07, Woodland Hills and Oakland on 4/6/07 and San Diego on 4/13/07.

Express Online Training: Receive the training without the hassle of administering an online program. To register the trainee for just $75, click here or call 800.748.8484 , Option # 3, and then send the trainee name, email address and all the online classes you would like them to receive to training@employersgroup.com. All courses will be assigned within 24 hours and trainees will have three (3) months to finish the classes assigned to them. Please be sure attendees print and provide you with a copy of their completion certificate.

Support of internal training
If you are planning on providing training internally or using another provider, consultant or attorney, check with Employers Group first as this training may not meet the requirements of AB 1825. In addition, Employers Group can provide valuable support services. Contact a professional services manager at 800.748.8484 to get more details.

Your Guide to the 2007 Training and Consulting Catalog

You may have already received—or will soon receive—your copy of the 2007 Employers Group Training and Consulting Catalog

We are pleased to present some great new changes to our certificate programs, courses, scheduling, and value-added benefits and locations based upon the feedback we received from members and past attendees. This year there are courses and certificate programs for every level within your organization, from senior leaders to frontline employees and everywhere in between. Here is what to expect in 2007.

Certificate programs
Based upon feedback, we have reduced the Human Resources Professional Series from 16 courses to 8 core courses; however, we have added a major benefit. By signing up for the certificate program, registrants are able to attend any other class throughout 2007 for just $150 each; however, does exclude courses in the Human Capital Development Series. This bonus enables trainees to tailor individual courses to their individual needs. Programs begin immediately.

We are re-releasing the Compensation and Benefits Certificate Program as a 7-course program with the same value-added benefit of the program above. Registrants can attend any other course for just $150 each. Only 5 certificate programs have been scheduled statewide and they kick-off in April. Link for area in blue:

The Human Capital Development Series is Employers Group’s newest certificate program. This program is geared to more seasoned and senior HR professionals and organizational leadership. If your organization needs to get to the next level in talent identification and retention as well as individual performance and responsibility, this program is not to be missed. This certificate program will begin statewide in May.

Leadership and Supervisory Skills
Our highly popular Leadership Skills program remains almost the same; however, we have renamed Basic Leadership Skills to Leadership Skills: Supervisory Skill Set. Likewise the Advanced Leadership Skills has been renamed to Leadership Skills: Productivity Skill Set. Each skill set consists of six 4-hour modules. Trainees can register for an individual skill set or for both encompassing all 12 modules: Leadership Skills: Supervisory and Productivity Skill Sets. Regardless of the skill set(s) selected, all modules are experiential and based-upon individual trainee interaction and learning, which result in changed behaviors.

Additionally, the program is not just for supervisory personnel but is ideal for frontline and high-value employees that your organization seeks to invest in and grow. Programs are conveniently held throughout the state in 2007 and public offerings in Spanish will begin in April. As always, any of these corresponding modules and skill sets can also be conducted on-site.

New courses in 2007
Based upon member feedback, Employers Group is offering some new coursework in 2007, including:

We have revised our Express Online Program where organizations may only want to train one or a handful of trainees to include access to all of our online offerings for one low fee per person (not per course), including harassment prevention-AB1825, lawful terminations, legal interviewing, IIPPs, workplace violence and many more.

Value-Added benefits to Certificate Programs and certain courses
Registrants signing up for the Human Resources Professional Series, Compensation and Benefits Certificate and Human Capital Development Series can sign up for any course throughout 2007 for just $150 each. This offer excludes additional coursework in the Human Capital Development Series. To take full advantage of this offer, attendees are encouraged to register early in 2007.

Additionally, some courses (interviewing, supervisory law, workplace security and writing IIPPs) will include access to our popular online training to create a blended learning approach: one part classroom, one part interactive online training. Other courses (discrimination law, wage and hour laws, wrongful terminations, and policies and handbooks) will include useful HR resource materials such as the popular voluminous how-to-guides authored by noted California lawyer Richard Simmons.

Scheduling
Last year, many of our courses were formatted to 4-hour offerings. This will continue; however, most courses will now begin at 8:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. allowing busy professionals to be in training half their workday while not missing the entire lunch hour. Additionally, only three courses in our line-up are 6-hours long (AAP, Compensation and Benefits); however, they are packed full of information that cannot be covered in a shorter period of time.

Additionally, based upon class size and discussion, content may be covered more quickly and courses may finish earlier than expected.

Locations
To keep our costs the lowest possible for our valued clients, we are moving many courses and certificate programs to hotels and conference facilities, although some University of Phoenix locations will remain.

Additionally, more locations have been identified. In addition to the cities where we previously offered training, this year we will also conduct public courses in Concord, San Jose, Oakland, West Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Bernardino, Thousand Oaks Area, Artesia and Diamond Bar/Pomona.

Easier registration and course search features
Our online registration has been updated and allows for easier search features based upon region, dates, subject-matter and by course title (key word). As always, registration is available through our member service department at 800.748.8484 (option 3). In addition, our helpful registration staff as well as our new catalog can provide helpful information on additional coursework that is applicable to your needs.

Summary
We are very excited about the changes suggested by members and attendees. If you have any other suggestions for course content, new programs or ideas, just let us know via email: training@employersgroup.com. We look forward to seeing both you and your staff at our events in 2007!
